We are delighted to sponsor the 2021 Downpatrick Festival on June 12th and 13th.
It’s the latest example of our how we’re investing in the sport at grassroots level, and follows successful sponsorships over the past year or so which have seen the VLR brand become a familiar sight at tracks in Ireland and the UK. At the Downpatrick Festival our logo will be seen on the course and in the parade ring.
All of the VLR team are passionate about horse racing, but none more so than our Chairman Vincent Caldwell whose lifelong love of the sport began in Northern Ireland. He said: “The Downpatrick Festival always produces an exciting weekend of racing, and it’s a privilege for VLR to be associated with a track that has such a remarkable history dating back more than 300 years.”
Downpatrick is famous for being one of only five all-National Hunt (jump) racecourses in Ireland, and the home of the Ulster National which is a recognised trial for the Irish Grand National.
This weekend’s action begins at 1.30 on Saturday June 12th with the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares Maiden Hurdle – the first of seven races that afternoon. Seven more follow on Sunday with the highlight being the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares’ Handicap Hurdle at 2.50 which offers the festival’s biggest purse.
After 16 months of racing behind closed doors, it’s great to see that Downpatrick will be welcoming owners to attend the festival. The Downpatrick team say this is the first step to some form of normality, and they’re making plans for the meeting on July 13th when they hope to welcome back race fans too.
